Founded jointly by the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development, the Association of Latvian Universities, and the ICT Association LIKTA, it is structured as a state-supported private foundation with €370,000 in initial Ministry of Economics funding. The Centre serves as Latvia's primary collaborative platform for AI research, ethics, governance, Latvian language preservation in AI systems, and technology commercialisation, and is a principal organiser of the AI Connect 2026 conference.
